Banner sizes are defined by IAB (Interactive Advertising Bureau) standards. Each size has its typical page placement and effectiveness. The most popular formats: 300×250 (Medium Rectangle, embedded in content), 728×90 (Leaderboard, page header), 160×600 (Wide Skyscraper, sidebar).
