🧠 How JPEG Works

JPEG compresses images with loss — it discards details invisible to the human eye. The quality parameter controls how much detail is discarded. Here is how it works:

🖼 RGB original image 🎨 YCbCr luminance separate from color 🧩 Blocks 8×8 image is split into pieces 📉 DCT pixels to frequencies (like notes in music) ✂️ Quantization discard fine details ⬆ quality 📦 Huffman lossless compression (like ZIP) 💾 .jpg final file
